SEPTEMBER 27 NOTES
OUR PROGRAM TODAY HAD A DOUBLE WHAMMY! First was a story of compassion and competence by our own Dr. Barsoum. He spoke of the highlights of his trip into Africa where he volunteered at a Mission Hospital in Kijabe. He worked with children at the crippled children’s center. He highlighted his talk with photos of some of the children who needed his care. It was a moving presentation, and called out to each of us to make a difference not only in our town and nation, but across the globe. He also commented on his amazement at the amount of missionary work being done in Africa.
Thanks, Adib for such a soul stirring presentation. If you would be inclined to volunteer, I am sure Dr. Barsoum would be glad to share information. SECOND SEGMENT of our presentations today was a talk by our Greensburg Police Chief, Walter Lyons, introduced by Gene James. Valuable information on “Identity Theft” was shared with us. Among the insights was the fact that we are all susceptible; that if it happens to us, notify the bank within 2 days and our Police Dept. Greensburg is fortunate in having 2 officers on the National Task Force for Identity Theft. He also urged us to protect any “identifiers” that we might carry – ID’s, Social Security Numbers, Check or Bank Cards, etc. Take only one credit card when you go out, do not take any that you are not going to use today. Also remove mail from your mail box quickly, and do not mail checks, bill from your home mail box, but deposit them at the Post Office. Check your credit report annually, or if you are using the internet for purchases, taxes, bill payments – check your rating every 6 months. These are only some of the ideas given – you should have been there to hear the whole presentation. NOW – will we do it? Thanks, Chief!
ATTENDANCE REPORT by Dennis Cremonese had 60 Rotarians attending, and guests included: Rotarian Ed Campbell from Sun City West, AZ; Dr. Barsoum’s family: Joy, Magda, Gregory, Jan; Bob Wilson’s wife Peg and her sister, Willi; Ed Meadow’s wife Sue, and her sister, Lois Laughin from Naples, FL; Students Sarah Keller and Jorge Garcia our exchange student were also in attendance.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM GREENSBURG SALEM were brought by Katy Doran, and shared their plans with us. Cathy presented them with our 4 way Test engraved on a usable 6 inch ruler. It is very important and interesting for us to hear and share in the dreams of our youth!

John is the Marketing Assistant of the club and works out of Heinz Field. He was a veritable fountain of information. He also was a class mate of Rick Nedley, that ought to tell you something! Our meeting today was unusual in several respects: first, because of a miscommunication, we had to eat in the dining room and share it with others, second, the choice of food was greater; and third, we had more Rotarians in attendance than usual. All good things come to those who wait!
Amidst the confusion, President Cathy Baumann began our meeting in the usual manner with the invocation by Bob Wilson.
