Thoughts for the day: “If you want to change somebody, don’t preach to him. Set an example and shut up!” (Jack La Lanne)

Rotary Club of Greensburg celebrates President Jeff , his leadership and accomplishments for our club… it was like this:
“It was a dark and stormy night..” but even that could not dampen (at least not too much) the good time we had honoring Jeff, and pulling his leg a bit.
It all began with a social time while waiting out the storm. We shared in some finger food and beverages with a lot of good conversation with each other. President elect Cathy Baumann called us to order, beginning the meeting in our usual manner with the pledge of allegiance, a verse of “God Bless America,” and the invocation by Mike Lucotch.
We shared in a sumptious banquet of Filet Mignon, fish, pasta, vegetables, salad, bread sticks, and topped it off with cheese cake and strawberries. The listing of the menu does not do justice to the presentation of the food or its delicious taste. UPG has served this club well. We thank them for their outstanding service.
Bob Bloom presented a Paul Harris pin to Bob Wilson for multiple Paul Harris Gifts.

Following the meal, past President Ed Nemanic was called upon to guide the tribute to Jeff. He noted the contributions of the committee: Cathy Baumann, Mary Clymer, Mary’s son Jerrod, Bob Wilson, Carl Rossman, and himself. The theme of the evening was Jeff’s signature piece: his Mini Cooper Car. A large wooden cut out of a mini Cooper was unveiled…(the masterpiece of this group.) Then signs in form of Jeff’s LED sign were lifted up: “sign Sign SIGN” – denoting the growth of the Centennial Project of our club, beginning with a small sign board in either Lynch Field or St. Clair Park (begun in Ed Nemanic’s term) and the development of the concept of the LED sign through the next President’s term, and finally coming into fruition in 2005 - as a matter of fact, the first messages were posted on the E. Pgh. Street Sign before the meeting.
Another sign was “Bulls Eye” – knowing that each President is at the center of the club for praise, comment, criticism..; “Silver Spoon” noted that one of the awards that was given Jeff at the District Conference was the “best food” award by the District Govenor for the meal he was served at our meeting. Finally, a “Congrats Jeff” sign acknowleged our gratitude for all the hard work he has done.
Jeff responded by noting several highlights during his term of office: The way the club members responded during the crisis of the death of Ken Ruoff at one of our meetings. The support of our membership for the Student Exchange program that changes many lives. The response of the club to the Rotary Foundation this year..(Cathy Baumann had noted this earlier in the program with Chuck Anderson enlisting our members.) Jeff reported that we were the #1 club in total giving for the year. $102. per member. He noted that he was so glad the LED Board was up and working. Training for the board will be tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. Call Jeff if you are interested.
But do it early.
Then he presented the gavel to Cathy - and brought the bell for her to ring at the end of the program.
Cathy presented Jeff with the past President’s pin, and thanked him again on behalf of the club for a job well done. She noted earlier that Jeff would be working as an Assistant Governor and our club would be one of his charges. Cathy asked that we end our meeting with a prayer for the past year, and for the coming year. It was done, the bell was rung and we went out into a stormless night. If you weren’t here, you missed a great time. Plan to attend our next special function. It is a treat!
=====================

S.O.S. – we need some Rotarians who believe in Service Above Self – because there are still openings for the Rotary Booth at Twin Lakes Festival – especially on July 4. C’mon and lend a hand if you have not signed up. WE NEED YOU! Call Chris DeDiana 724-837-4656. Go on, you will make his day! Our scholarship fund will benefit..!
=====================
Program next week: gathered from conversation at the dinner will be a special introduction of our new President and the goals, dreams, plans of the new board. Sounds as if we can have some input. Plan to attend!
====================
Bob Wilson is looking for someone to work with him for the Flash reporting. Since I do not always catch everything that is said, I need someone to assist my ears! Would you help? Please see me.
===================
One last thing about President Jeff that was not said at the dinner, but of which we should all be aware – that is, he has spent countless hours bringing our club into the computer age. Some of us did not really want to be there, but it is a real blessing, and keeps us up and running in today’s world. For the many hours, tribulations, complaints, and patience, we thank you Jeff – for keeping at us until we achieved a modicum of success.
Thank you, and when something doesn’t go right with this computer, we’ll be knocking at your door again.

Words for Today:
I believe in luck! The harder I work the more luck I have.

Greensburg Rotary LED Message Center is now in place on E. Pittsburgh Street in the Eckard Drug Store Lot. Soon, we hope, it will be connected to electric power and sending out messages for the town and club! Watch for it!

Did you know?
…that on May 17th Mr. and Mrs. Griffith were presented with Paul Harris Fellow Awards? They have been a host family for many of our exchange students. It was especially fitting since they were not Rotarians that we recognize them in this special way.

Did you know that we have two incoming students for this year?
Carl Rossman has guided the placement of Jorge Garcia Salazer from Ecuador and Julie Mala from the Czech Republic.
We are going to have twice the fun this year that we have had in the past. With two students we will all have to pitch in and show them our way of life, our country, our ways of having a good life. If anyone can do it – it is Rotarians!

We celebrated our 100th Birthday of Rotary with Greensburg – not only by the installation of the LED Message Center, but also by sponsoring the first Concert in the Park this year. Tony Martino greeted the concert goers at intermission, and extended a Rotary welcome to them all. Thanks, Tony!
