OUR WEEKLY MEETING Tom Sphon, City Administrator for the City of Greensburg, gave us an update on some happenings in town. The 9th Annual Community Days have been completed along with the 24th Annual School Picnic that was held at Idlewild Park. Currently, The Concert in the Parks Summer Series is running through August 29th. This has been a great success. Tom thanked Gene James for helping with the concerts. August 6th is the date for the Steelers Practice at Offutt Field. Autographs will be at 6:45 P.M. with practice running from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The cost is $3.00 per person ages 18-65. The Rotary Picnic will be held on August 12th at Lynch Field. (We have the pavilion and pool to ourselves!) Seton Hill and Greensburg Salem have proposed a $10 million University Center that will have a historical inn, café space, tourism center, athletic fields and wetland areas. The City wants Seton Hill to come downtown. A $5 million dollar match is needed from the State. Tom said that Mayor Eisaman and the Governor have a good relationship and hope to make this happen. In regard to the City's rehabilitations, the Troutman's complex will provided new storage space for the County. The Greensburg Development Authority continues to build relationships the merchants. The Westmoreland Museum of American Art has helped so that the Maple Avenue Bridge can hopefully be started this fall. Another fall project will hopefully be the Mt. Pleasant Street Flood Project. Tom mentioned that this has been a very long time coming. The mission of the City is to build partnerships throughout the City with merchants and organizations. The "narrow view" of what is considered downtown needs to be expanded. THIS MONTH’S BIRTHDAYS: JUNE'S BIRTHDAYS JULY'S BIRTHDAYS WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY
