5) Noting that Route 130 is a mess because Rev. Wilson is littering it with the bottles tossed from his car, John Dickson urges Rotarians to help clean up the area by signing up for the High way cleanup on Saturday July 23, 8:30 a.m. – meeting at the tennis courts of the Country Club. Call John - just don’t ask Rev. Wilson what to call him.

7) Chuck Anderson passed the signup board around for Pirate Baseball and Strike out hunger night at PNC park Wednesday, Aug. 24 -- Call Chuck if you want to share in this good time together, and the Pirates are playing some good ball! Don’t miss it!
INDUCTION OF OUR NEWEST MEMBER, CHARLES QUIGGLE was conducted by Joe Peluso. He is employed by the Diocese of Greensburg. Chef Dato (who was not present – probably had his hands in some dough) and Paul Hochendoner were his sponsors. WELCOME CHARLES! We need you! Help us make this club vibrant!
SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GREETINGS!!! Although we were not really in tune, we raised our voices in tribute to a special 89th birthday of – can you guess it? Most of us could not, but Cathy read from the early minutes of the club – Greensburg Rotary Club is 89!
A fine tradition, and going concern through the years! Happy Birthday, and many many more!
CLUB ASSEMBLY conducted by Cathy for our meeting today. Members were invited to share their thoughts about the club:
1) Katy Doran spoke about this club’s involvement with the Youth Exchange program of the District. (She is the current Chair for the district.) Congratulations for taking 2 students for the coming year. She noted we would be hosting RYLA this year with Stacy Clemmer heading this program. A positive note for the club!
2) Bill Kern speaking for Bill McGrath, Membership Chair pulled our attention to a Prospective Membership Document on each table with a form for Prospective members.
Help our club grow! – Look around you for possibilities. Bill also noted that he has become a member of the Nominating Committee for R.I. directors - Zone 28 which is made up of 14 districts. There is a possibility that our zone will have the first female director in Rotary!
3) For those who are lining up speakers for the club – look for our own members to present a program. Pick people from our club! Even Tom Jachimowicz can do it! These were the contributions from our own Jim Harrold!
4) Will Brown presented a concern on behalf of several members who want to explore other venues for a meeting place. President Cathy asked Will to chair the committee, and others volunteering to serve were: Alex Lima, Dick McNeel, Peter Cecconi, Frank VanHorn.
5) Questions about the LED sign were raised by Ed Meadows, and answered by Jeff Malloy concerning the changing of messages on the board. We are still in the training mode – and improvements will be made as our people learn to operate the sign.
Doctor Hower also commented that by the time you pass the sign, you do not see all the message..should they be shorter? Jeff’s response was that what you don’t see now, you will see the next time you pass.. Any comments on the sign, Jeff has urged you to email him. All comments gladly accepted; no guarantees extended.
6) David Robinson queried about combining the Club Assembly with the Birthday Celebrations. Cathy is to take it under advisement.
7) Dr. Kevin Metzger noted that we have not been having biographies of our members, and felt that it would be good to have them, to bring us all up to date on our friends. Cathy noted that this was planned.
8) President Baumann asked our feeling about having club assemblies each month – it was greeted by a majority show of hands. Well Done! We learned a lot!
The closing of the meeting was the recitation of the four way test – and we hope that we keep it in our minds until we meet again next Tuesday!

Announcements
Chris DeDiana noted that the turn out for volunteers at the Arts and Heritage Booth worked out well and that we all enjoyed our time there. The fellowship was so good that he is hopeful you will want to join the group there next year! A new item is being proposed for the booth: Deep-fried Twinkies to match our Deep-fried Oreos! Tastes like a winner to those who tried the taste sensation! Mark Barnhart indicated that the unofficial financial report on the event was $5600. to $5700. gross.
Chuck Anderson started a clipboard around for “Strike Out Hunger Night” at the Pirates Ball game on August 24. Cost will be $16. and $5. for tailgate party. Sign up or call Chuck.
Tom Headley noted the special events surrounding the Braddock Events with scheduled observances at Madison and Irwin. Friday will feature Dr. Cassell speaking at the Norwin Public Library, Saturday the dedication of a plaque at Clay Pike, Sunday a Colonial Tea at Redstone, North Huntingdon and a colonial Church Service. For details contact Chriz Rizk or Tom Headley.
Stacy Clemmer needs you to sign up to provide speakers for a month on the clipboard or call her! It’s easier than you think. Call her.
Anne Peagler called our attention to the need for sign ups for the Birthday presentations. As a matter of fact, one is needed for this month! Please call her today. Remember a good Rotarian volunteers to fill a need. You can do it.
Today’s Program by President Baumann was an over view of the club goals for the year: 1. Monthly Club Assembly to keep everyone informed and involved.
2. Every speaker will be asked to use the microphone – so all can hear.
3. Our clipboard malaise – the problem of how to get it/them around to all members in the meeting. Suggestions, please!
4. Next week will be a Club Assembly. Think about what you would like to see our club accomplish. This will be an open forum. Come and speak up!
5. Literacy Program – Cesare Muccari presented the request of the district for all clubs to give dictionaries to the 3rd grade students in their area. Our responsibility will be the Greensburg-Salem Area; Hempfield Area (exception of New Stanton); and the Catholic School for a total of 700 dictionaries @ $1.45 each. A plaque on each noting it is a gift from Greensburg Rotary, and a note from Cathy to the parents will give good publicity for our club.
Cathy then asked each of her officers to bring notations from their areas of concern:
1. Mary Clymer will be in charge of programs and the literacy thrust.
Mary was not able to be present today.
2. Past President Jeff – made sure we knew he was no longer president by his absence, but his duties on the board will still go on!
3. Carl Rossman: International Service noted that we would have 2 exchange students:
a young man from Ecuador, and a young lady from the Czech Republic. We still need a second family in Greensburg Salem School District for the young man. Carl also noted that he would be asking for support for the Foundation Dinner.
4. Mark Barnhart, treasurer, indicated that our dues will remain constant, …if….
5. Secretary Bob Bloom called for us to help bring our attendance at meetings up. Make ups need to be registered if you work at a club project or attend a District meeting. Bob has a book, which will let you know all the Rotary meetings in the world. If you are going away this summer, or any time, look in the book for the nearest club and make up!
6. Bill McGrath is in charge of Membership Development. He plans to bring to our attention the overview of our club’s membership by age, occupation, hair complexion, etc. and note some obvious opportunities for us. His goal is to increase our membership by 12 – one member per month, and to raise our attendance record to 60%. Our current membership stands at 108. We have work to do! We can do it!
7. Chuck Anderson, Fellowship Chairman, talked about keeping our Bowling event, and adding a Golf Tournament. A number of golfers raised their hands for him! Looks like a good event in the making…
8. Michele Bononi, Public Relations – kept it short by indicating if you know of an event that ought to be publicized, call her!
9. James Boggs in charge of the Flash – called for help for this publication especially in January – April when Bob Wilson will be away. ( Incidentally, Bob will be glad to share the task at any time, and would appreciate the help. editor’s note) (Double note: I always wanted to do that! – bw)
10. Pete Dochinez in charge of youth programs – was not available today. (Too much Fourth of July??)
11. Rebecka Hutchinson – Rotary Family events will be announced, so please just sign up - and be there!
12. Chris DeDiana, our Fund Raising Coordinator noted the three major activities by the club: a.) Arts and Heritage Festival, just completed; b.) Wine Tasting Event; and c.) The Blood Testing. Please consider any new fund raising activity and do suggest it if you are will to be involved in the planning for the event, and head it up.
Finally, Cathy thanked her board, and called the meeting to a close by tapping the glass on the podium after we repeated the Four Way Test! See you on Tuesday!
