Perfect Attendance – It has been brought to my attention that I neglected to mention that Guy Davis has had perfect attendance for the year 2002 (not to mention ever since his joining of Rotary in 1985). Ed Meadows read the list of these 100 percent attendance members a few weeks back. Sorry Guy. UPCOMING PROGRAMS Our program was changed at the very last moment due to the inability of the scheduled speaker to attend. However, it was a very special meeting that developed. The laughter and festive feelings that resulted from this meeting was very special. It was mentioned by several members that we need a less formal meeting every now and then so that we can talk, laugh and just relax with friends. Bill Rudolph………….December 4 THURSDAY FRIDAY

WISE AND OTHERWISE "Be a fountain, not a drain." SERGEANT AT ARMS Report – There were 130 in attendance at the Holiday Party. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Our Annual Holiday Party is always so special. Tonight was no exception. The ability to meet in such great fellowship at this time of year is truly a blessing. Many thanks to Bob and Peg Wilson for arranging this event. We were all treated to good food, a beautifully decorated room and the holiday sounds by the First United Methodist Adult Hand Bell Choir. A special presentation was made by President Ed to Ken Rutter. Ken was recognized as one of this Club's Honorary Members for his many years of service to this Club and this community. As all of us know, Ken is active in the Church, hospital, Chamber of Commerce, education, help for juveniles, the Boy Scouts, the Children's Bureau and many other worthwhile organizations. President Ed referred to Ken as "Mr. Greensburg". Also recognized were three Paul Harris Fellows. Mark Barnhart presented a PHF to Gary Rutter, who was described as a very humble person who gave away a PHF to another person years ago. It was now his turn to be recognized. Jeff Malloy and Paul Hochendoner each received this special recognition. These two members are very active Rotarians who serve on the Board of Directors and are very active in the Art Gala and fundraising of the Club. To their surprise, each was presenting the recognition to each other. The Club's Rotarian of the Year presentation was handled by last year's recipient, Tom Hower. Tom presented this year's award to Bill Ovitsky. Bill is a former educator and is a member who participates and serves at most all of the Club's projects. He served his Country in Japan and is involved with the Historical Society. Bill Rudolph………….December 4 THURSDAY FRIDAY

VIEW INN Upcoming programs: Our speaker today was Sue Hankinson, Somerset County Flight 93 Coordinator. Sue told us about the day that we will always remember, September 11th, and the massive task of coordinating activities at the site of the crash in the initial days and then one year later. The County Commissioners were immediately overloaded with requests for interviews, access to the area, etc. Sue was approached and asked to become the coordinator. After much serious thought she accepted and was appointed to serve in that capacity for one year. She told of how the crash site was in an area that had no phone lines, no power and that much was needed such as lighting, sound systems and radio towers for cell phone transmissions. Of course the media presence and their requests for interviews and access were huge. In the days that followed, the need for, and the location of an official memorial site was discussed with the families of those who lost their lives on the flight. The families approved of the official site being at the actual crash site. Legislation was later introduced by John Murtha to allow for the official site. One year later, the 1st anniversary memorial ceremony was held. There were security issues and background checks that needed to be addressed. Permission for access to the land from the property owners where the crash occurred was needed. Buses, signs, maps, cabanas are just some of the concerns that needed handled for the first anniversary memorial service that was held. They had to prepare for up to 30,000 people since it was not known how many would attend. Sue had to deal with many agencies: Pentagon, ATF, Secret Service, Library of Congress and the White House and its security detail. There were over 3,000 requests for credential from the media. Sue said that first and foremost, the first anniversary of the crash was to be a memorial…Sue said that the families of the victims were overwhelmed with the dignity of the service.
