Club News:

OUR LUNCH MEETING LOCATION HAS CHANGED: Beginning in September 2017, our luncheon meetings will be held at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center, 100 Ramada Inn Drive, Greensburg.

Foundation Moment with Cindy Strayer: This week, World Peace Day is celebrated on September 21. Past RI President John Germ had this it say about peace: “Peace doesn’t get built in congresses or parliaments. And it doesn’t get built by armies or presidents, or even in the United Nations building in New York. It gets built by people who care and are willing to work for the things they care about. Things like sustainable economic growth, human rights, clean water and air, sanitation, literacy and health.” These are things Rotarians work on every single day in every corner of the world.

Marcy’s Quote of the Week: “A simple smile or good morning could change someone’s entire mood today. Practice being pleasant.”

Happy Bucks: We are looking for suggestions of where to send our Happy Bucks, please see a Board Member if you would like to make a suggestion.

Cesare Muccari introduced today’s speakers from the Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, Board President Jeanne Smith, Board Secretary Brenda White, Adult Services Librarian Sara Deecon, Chair of Vote Yes Committee Dr. Paul Adams, and Treasurer of Vote Yes Committee Nancy Harris. They spoke today about the Referenda that will be on the November 7 ballot. The referenda will ask voters to approve the levying of 1 mill on all taxable real estate to be allocated to the Greensburg Hempfield Area Library and the Youngwood Branch.

The funds raised will be used to support library programs, services, staffing and facilities upkeep. If the referendum passes, the library will use the funds to maintain and extend needed programs across our service area. If the referendum fails, certain key programs will continue to face shortfalls. Since the library is already operating at the minimum levels permitted by state law, if the library falls below those levels, state funding will be cut off, which could result in permanently closing the library even sooner than the six years that may be available through deficit spending.
