Club News:

Foundation Moment with Gene James: In Haiti, one of the poorest countries on Earth, there is a school that serves 500 orphans and disadvantaged children. For a very long time, the school had no electrical power. The teachers had to use the sun as their primary light source. But because of a Rotary Foundation Global Grant, Rotarians were able to install a hybrid energy system featuring locally sourced solar panels and now have enough power for lights, computers and the schools water pump.

Marcy’s Quote of the Week: “Take a deep breath and just enjoy your life.”

Speaker:
Katie Fishell introduced today’s speakers, Jay Bell, owner of Bella Terra Vineyards. Bella Terra is 17 acres of beautiful land in the Ruffs Dale/New Stanton, PA region. The 17 acres includes a gorgeous three-acre lake and vineyard. The location is ideal; it is two miles from the Pennsylvania Turnpike but nestled among several hundred-year-old trees, giving you easy access and plenty of privacy. Fall in love with our amazing assortment of red, white and blush wines. From May through October, enjoy live entertainment every weekend! You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages. We are pet friendly as long as your pet is on a leash and you clean up after them. Katie also introduced Jackie and Gordon Sobel of Sobel’s Obscure Brewery. Born out of our garage, they set out to create exciting new and different recipes. After gifting some brews to friends and family, and being awarded at competitions, they decided to give it a try on the big stage! Founded officially in 2012, Sobel’s Obscure Brewery is a family endeavor run by David Sobel and his two children, Gordon and Jackie. Always ready for fun and laughter, they created not only a great product, but a quirky brand that would spur consumers to try them and follow our progress! Get to know their beer gnomes! Keep on the lookout for the funny antics they get up to! For more information, visit www.sobbrews.com

Our meeting ended in the usual way with the Four Way Test.
